Back to work….
The holidays are over and it’s back to work for the majority of the Western world. Hopefully, everyone had a chance to relax and enjoy their time off before returning to work; it’s so important to be able to press the “reset” button whenever the opportunity presents itself! Unfortunately, the stress of the toxic workplace is often so huge, it can seem like the time we have away barely makes a dent in the pressures and politics we must battle once we return to work. To maintain your holiday “after glow” and stay balanced, here are a few tips for self-care in the workplace:
- Delegate work and/or ask for help: if you’re feeling overwhelmed, prioritize your tasks and stay within your parameters. Give away assignments or encourage others to share the workload with you. It is okay to not be all things to all people and to set some acceptable limits for yourself.
- Remember, we are all a work in progress. While there is always room for improvement, it is important to maintain a balanced perspective and to remember the things you’re doing well as well as the things you’d like to change. Nobody is perfect and improvement almost always takes time. Just do your best and strive for excellence instead of perfection.
- Try to have fun: Like the old saying goes, try not to make mountains out of mole hills. Instead, remember to laugh and not take things too seriously. Believe it or not, you are allowed to have fun and enjoy yourself, even when you’re at work!
Remember, keeping yourself healthy in a toxic workplace requires conscious efforts on your part. By seeking to achieve balance and reduce stress, you must make your self-care and well-being a priority.
